Heat Pump & Solar Panel Installation Winchmore Hill N21
A combined Mitsubishi heat pump and solar PV installation for a home in Winchmore Hill (N21), backed by a full heat loss survey, real performance data and the £7,500 government grant.
Mitsubishi Ecodan with Solar and Battery Storage
For this Winchmore Hill (N21) home, we carried out a full room-by-room heat loss survey to design a Mitsubishi Ecodan 11.2kW heat pump system with a 250 litre hot water cylinder, paired with a 4.45kW solar PV system and 9.5kWh battery storage.
The heat loss survey assessed every room individually, checking existing radiators against the calculated heat requirement for each space, and confirming the proposed system would comfortably meet the home’s needs at a flow temperature of 55°C, helping the heat pump run efficiently while keeping radiators at familiar temperatures.
The results speak for themselves. Based on the survey, the proposed system has a Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) of 3.99, meaning for every 1kWh of electricity used, the system delivers almost 4kWh of heat. This is projected to reduce the home’s annual heating costs from approximately £4,523 to £1,972, and cut CO2 emissions by around 5,330kg per year, equivalent to planting over 240 trees.
The solar PV system, 10 panels generating 4.45kW alongside a 9.5kWh battery, is expected to bring the home’s grid electricity independence up to around 82%, significantly reducing reliance on imported electricity while storing excess solar generation for use in the evening.
The installation was supported by the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The heat pump’s measured sound output of 32dB also falls comfortably under Permitted Development limits, meaning no planning permission was required for this installation.
